Different file types
GIF- It should only be used for for animations only. Unlike JPEG it uses lossless compression that does not degrade the quality of the image. It is also useable on the web.

JPEG- It is mainly useful for photographs and for uploading things online. If you wont to print an image the JPEG file would not be suitable.

PNG- It is commenly used for website design to provide a transparent background or a semi transparent image. They are also often used for logos.

PSD- It would be used to save the document and be able to access it on other computer but the computer you are working on it on.

TIF- It is an image format file for high quality graphics, it stands for tagged image format file. It also uses lossless compression to contain image integrity.
